Top Cubans in the MLB, 2024 Edition

Cuba has a rich baseball history, producing a continuous flow of incredible talent that lights up Major League Baseball. Here's a look at three Cuban superstars currently setting the league a blaze:

Yordan Alvarez (Houston Astros)

A true powerhouse, Yordan Alvarez is a force at the plate. With monstrous home runs and an uncanny ability to drive in runs, he's an offensive juggernaut. Alvarez won the 2022 World Series with the Astros, cementing his place as one of the game's premier hitters. His towering home runs and clutch RBIs make him a must-watch player. Alvarez's defection and exile made him one of the most high-profile athletes to challenge Fidel Castro's regime. After leaving Cuba, Alvarez sought asylum in Canada and eventually signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers as an international free agent in 2016.

Adolis García (Texas Rangers)

Known as "El Bombi", Adolis García is pure excitement. Possessing raw power and unexpected speed, Garcia can electrify a stadium with a single swing. His stellar defense in the outfield only adds to his value, making him an explosive, all-around player. Adolis Garcia's baseball journey began in Cuba's Serie Nacional. Determined to reach the MLB, he took an indirect route, first playing in Japan, then boldly defecting from Cuba. He established residency in the Dominican Republic to become a free agent, eventually leading to his signing by the Cardinals in 2017.

Randy Arozarena (Tampa Bay Rays)

Randy Arozarena burst onto the MLB scene, especially shining in the postseason spotlight. An incredible athlete, Arozarena can hit for power, steal bases, and make spectacular defensive plays. His fearless style on both sides of the ball makes him a constant threat and a player capable of incredible highlights. Arozarena was judged as a top prospect in Cuban baseball. A Cuban baseball prodigy, Arozarena debuted in the National Series as a teenager. Seeking better opportunities, he made a daring escape to Mexico by raft in 2015.

These three stars represent just a small fraction of the exciting Cuban talent shining in the MLB. Their impact on the game is undeniable, and they continue to inspire the next generation of Cuban baseball players. The legacy of Cuban baseball excellence is in good hands.
