Dr. Lasaga was a prominent psychologist, educator, and recognized author in psychology and Cuban history. After graduating from the University of Havana, he studied at Harvard and Laval universities. He was an active member of the American Psychological Association. In 1959 he ran into trouble with the regime for his participation in the Nationoal Catholic Congress which opposed communism.
He wrote Cuban Lives: Pages from Cuban History, which explores Cuban historical figures and events across centuries.
