A CHAMPION OF THE CUBAN CAUSE THROUGH CIVIC LEADERSHIP

In Memoriam: Mario Ernesto Sánchez (1947–2025)

The Miami art scene is in mourning for this actor who appeared in Step Up Revolution, Bad Boys, Miami Vice, Father of the Bride, The Lost City, and El Tiburón, among many other Hollywood productions.

Founder of Teatro Avante in Miami in 1979, he received the Federico García Lorca award in Spain, for having contributed greatly to the development of Hispanic theater in America.

His group has represented the U.S. at the most significant international festivals.

We will miss this pioneer of Cuban exile art. May he rest in peace.
