Claudio Benedí, Ph.D.
1987
Dr. Claudio Benedí helped the passage of the Symms `Cuba Resolution' by the U.S. Congress in 1982 and again in 1984 leading efforts to reaffirm the Monroe Doctrine to support the rights and liberties of the oppressed Cuban People.
Benedí was the author of the Benedí Doctrine, which condemns the institutionalized violations of human rights by totalitarian Communist regimes around the world, especially in Castro's Cuba. Claudio was an expert on inter-American affairs, known as “the Diplomatic Dean of the Organization of American States.” As a young man he had become involved in the student movement against Castro to preserve human rights in Cuba. In danger, he escaped Cuba in 1960 with his father.
