Grandson of Cuban Independence leader the Generalissimo Máximo Gómez, he spent 21 years in Castro’s prisons. From 1936-1960 he was a leading diplomat for the Republic of Cuba. He became the Director pf the Latin American Institute at St. Thomas University in Miami.
