Pedro Luis Boitel (1931–1972) Poet and opponent of Batista’s & Castro’s dictatorships. After exile in Venezuela he ran for presidency of the Univ. of Havana’s University Student Federation but was personally removed by Castro. He joined clandestine group MRR and served a 10-year sentence but was not freed after serving it, leading to his 53-day starvation strike under inhumane treatment.
