*Dictator Batista conducted coup d’état March 10, 1952. In 1954 he named Andrés Domingo Morales del Castillo as president but later Batista was elected President in free elections in 1955, although boycotted by several political parties. In 1958 free elections were once again held and boycotted and Andrés Rivero Agüero was elected but never served as government collapsed January 1, 1959.
