Dámaso Pérez Prado (1917-1989) bandleader, organist, pianist & composer known as the King of Mambo ever since he introduced the mambo, an upbeat adaptation of the Cuban danzón.  His mambos stood out with his brass riffs, sax counterpoints & grunts. He composed Mambo #5 & made Cherry Pink & Apple Blossom White famous. His U.S. popularity endured from the 1940s to the 1950s.
