Alan Gross is completely oblivious of the fact that the Castro regime was cruel and oppressive “long before the internet ever came to Cuba.” Mr. Gross “blames” the U.S. embargo on Cuba for the Cuban people having slow, expensive internet access without taking into consideration that the Cuban government is actively blocks many websites that educate Cubans about the rest of the world. The monumentally naive Alan Gross says the Castro regime needs to “get out of the way” and let Cubans better internet access. If only it were that simple. That’s like saying: “The Stasi need to stop shooting people who try to climb over the Berlin Wall.” Alan Gross does not comprehend that there is no such thing as a benevolent dictatorship. Hearing him speak is as irritating as nails on a blackboard. If rotting in a Cuban prison for 5 years didn’t make Mr. Gross aware of how “immutably corrupt” the Castro brothers regime is, then nothing will.

Alan Gross claims that he “doesn’t” suffer from Stockholm Syndrome, but I think it’s evident that he is completely oblivious to the fact that the Castro regime has no intention of “getting out of the way, to allow the Cuban people to surf the net freely” as Mr. Gross says they should. Listening to Alan Gross speak about the Castro regime is as uncomfortable as hearing fingernails scratching a chalkboard. Mr. Gross is an “educated idiot” who couldn’t recognize an immutable, oppressive dictatorship if it locked him in prison for 5 years.
